Under the same ownership as Chateau Carbonnieux, also in Pessac-Leognan, this wine is richly structured and full of bright fruits. Its balance is just right, touches of wood aging mingling with the black-currant flavors and acidity. Drink the wine from 2021.Le Petit Haut Lafitte Pessac-Leognan

The Petit Haut Lafitte red 2018 is extremely fine with silky tannins and beautiful Cabernet Sauvignon aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied with notes of blackcurrant, licorice and dark chocolate. Great finesse and structure offering good aging potential. 93pts DecanterChateau Malartic Lagraviere Pessac-Leognan

It has a lovely bouquet with disarming blackberry, briary and subtle marine scents, just a whiff of brine in the background from the distant Gironde estuary. The palate is medium-bodied with extremely fine tannins that frame the layers of blackberry, raspberry and orange rind notes. Satin-like in texture, this feels reassuringly long in the mouth with a dab of white pepper on the aftertaste. 96pts Vinous MediaChateau Latour-Martillac Pessac-Leognan Rouge

Probably the best wine that has come from this estate, along with their 2005, the final blend of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot boasts Michel Rolland as the consulting oenologist. This organically farmed vineyard has turned out a deeply layered wine with a striking perfume of graphite, wet stones, red and black currants, tobacco leaf and underbrush. The compelling aromatics are followed by a medium-bodied but intensely concentrated wine with loads of ripe fruit, plenty of glycerin (14% natural alcohol) and a long, nuanced, impressively endowed finish. Accessible already, this wine should continue to drink well for 15 or more years. 94pts Vinous MediaChateau Branon Pessac-Leognan

Once again in 2010, notes of mocha, espresso roast, chocolate, creme de cassis and scorched earth soar from this opaque purple-colored wine. It is aged in 100% new oak, but that is hardly noticeable given the wines sensational richness and extravagant fruit. This wine is classic, full-bodied and intense. 97pts Robert Parker Wine Advocate (2010Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte Pessac-Leognan

Seductively fleshy and creamy in feel, with alluring dark plum and fig notes laced with singed bay, black tea and dark earth hints. The broad finish has the grip and cut for definition. A beautiful wine in the making. 98pts Wine SpectatorChateau Haut Brion Pessac Leognon

The wine possesses impressively measured power and elegance offered in a medium bodied, nicely structured, exceptionally pure format. 92-94pts RP Wine Advocate (2002)La Mission Haut Brion Pessac-Leognan
FRANCE: BORDEAUX - RED - PESSAC-LEOGNAN

It's a more opulent wine compared to Haut-Brion, and the Merlot is front and center here, with ripe, sexy black cherry and redcurrant fruits as well as licorice, scorched earth, cedar pencil, and graphite aromas and flavors. Rich, exuberant, and straight up sexy on the palate, it's full-bodied, has a deep, layered mid-palate, building tannins, and a heavenly finish. 100pts James SucklingLa Mission Haut Brion

This utterly profound, exceptionally rich, full bodied, thick La Mission is undeniably one of the candidates for the wine of the vintage. It possesses sweet blue and black fruit notes intertwined with notions of burning embers and flowers. Unctuous, massively fruity, and thick, this is a great La Mission! 95pts RP Wine Advocate (2006)
