The core of the "La Pepie" Sur Lie bottling is the 10-hectare heart of the Pepiere estate, which is part of the Clisson cru in the tiny commune of Pepiere near the winery; there is also a significant percentage of their cru Chateau Thebaud fruit typically, as well as some purchased fruit from a nearby organic farmer friend in the mix. The wine has a very effusive nose; pear skin and citrus pith scents to be found here all mixed together with aromas that seem to suggest a mouthful of crumbled volcanic rocks is coming your way. The palate is just brimming with a tense seam of vibrant, volcanic minerals and thyme-tinged pear skin. This is a wine of great substance.
